Nordplus Junior Project “DABA Hub”  International Week in Riga - 15-20.03.2026

15-20 March 2026, Riga, Latvia

From 15 to 20 March 2026, Riga hosted an inspiring and eventful International Week within the framework of the Nordplus Junior project “DABA Hub” (NPJR-2024/10376). During this week, Latvia became a meeting place for young people and teachers from Latvia, Estonia, and Norway.

Learning Through Experience

Throughout the week, participants actively engaged in a variety of educational and practical activities and organised the international “DABA Hub” youth conference themselves. Around 80 participants attended the conference, including guests from Latvia, Norway, Estonia, and Finland.

Participants took part in workshops on ecology, sustainability, and green thinking, gave presentations and led discussions while developing their leadership skills, worked in groups analysing current environmental issues, joined interactive games and debates, and also organised a debate session themselves.

Particular importance was given to student-led activities, where they demonstrated not only knowledge, but also creativity, critical thinking, and the ability to cooperate.

Anastasija, a project participant, says:“By leading the seminar, I gained a lot of useful information about transport options and strategies for improving the situation in large cities and reducing their carbon footprint. I also learned a great deal of useful information from my teammates’ presentations about forests in the Baltic States, as well as local and imported products and their impact on the environment.”

Excursions and Inspiration

The program was also rich in educational trips and excursions: Riga Technical University and the two schools located on its premises; Bulduri Technical School – STEM workshops and sustainable technologies, as well as visits to greenhouses and training workshops; Jūrmala and natural sites; Riga Old Town guided by student guides; and Riga City Council, with a deputy sharing insights into the work of the Riga municipality.

These activities provided an opportunity to get to know Latvia, its educational environment, and sustainable development solutions in practice.

Roberts, a project participant, writes:“In my opinion, all the events were excellent. If I had to highlight just one, I would choose either the trip to Jūrmala or the quiz at the end of the conference on Tuesday. It was a pleasure to show and introduce my hometown to everyone involved in the project, but the quiz was truly exciting.”

Intercultural Experience

An important part of the project was also living with host families. This gave participants the opportunity to experience Latvian culture in everyday life, build friendships, and develop communication skills in an international environment.

The cultural evening, where each country presented its traditions, food, and performances, became one of the most emotional events of the week.

Katerina, a project participant, writes:“Working with participants from different countries helped me improve my communication and teamwork skills, become more confident in expressing my ideas, and also learn to listen to others, especially when discussing ecological challenges.”

Heartfelt thanks to everyone who helped make this week so special:
