Today, sitting on the bus taking us back home to Riga, it is high time to reflect on our mobility trip to Tallinn, Estonia.
A week was full of events, activities and collaborative learning.
Let us look into what our students wrote about their experiences:
⭐ Monday, November 10
'Our journey on the bus went by pretty quick, nothing nerve racking, just an overcast, foggy ride, chatted with friends a lot during it, the fact that it had screens mounted to seats was cool though, never actually been in a bus with them until now!
Going by microbus afterwards and having to hold someone's luggage from sliding away was quite funny, even though it was momentarily.
The little time we had in the hotel to eat was great, eating alongside one other always brings people together, though drinking kefir from a chalice brought us closer even more, I reckon 😂
During the tour of the old city I was (not by choice by the way, in fact, Mrs Skripachova was the one to point me out for the tour guide) picked as the translator for the Norwegian folk! I tried my best to translate the things I could whilst at the same time chatting around with the prior mentioned Norwegians, everyone was super friendly so this sudden thing turned out just fine.
By the end of the day, I met my host family, everyone was lovely and I didn't feel uncomfortable for even a moment, they also had a very silly corgi dog, named Chappy, who was a total cornball all the time.' - Maxim.
⭐ Tuesday, November 11
'The Creative Game Hackathon was both exciting and educational. We also gave a presentation and it was very interesting to listen to other students and ask questions. Preparing for the local campaign by making informational boxes about specific environmental problems allowed us to be creative while contributing to real awareness raising efforts', - Katerina.
⭐ Wednesday, November 12
'After breakfast, we returned to school for the Creative Game Hackathon led by Mr. Victor Panasenko and prepared for group presentations on the topic “Loss of Biodiversity and Overfishing.”
Katya and I presented the topic:
“Could fish farming in Latvia and the Baltic states reduce pressure on wild fish, or would it create new problems?”
It was interesting to hear the perspectives of Estonian and Norwegian students.
In the evening we had a Cultural Night — one of my favorite moments. We presented information about Latvia, performed songs, and danced a folk dance. Later we tried snacks from all three countries. Afterward my host family took us on a walk along the seaside promenade and through Kadriorg parks. Back home, Roma taught me how to play FIFA', - Arina.
⭐ Thursday, November 13
'On Thursday I participated in an environmental project. The main idea was to create a box using natural materials and objects, make up a story about an environmental problem, and present it to the group. I developed my design and teamwork skills. I am thankful for the new experiences I gained during these classes', - Polina.
⭐ Friday, November 14
'The last day, even a bit sad, because I already got used to the new place and to my, even though host, family and of course the dog ❤️ On this day we visited an unusual museum because there you could not just learn a lot of new things but also go inside, touch and see the entire internal structure of the ships, and we also walked across a cool bridge representing a 30-metre-high wave! It was a bit scary but it had a good view of the whole beautiful museum. In the afternoon our families were seeing us off, it was very nice. We exchanged gifts, hugged and took photos as a memory. I am waiting for her visit to Latvia', - Anastasia.
⭐ ⭐ ⭐ Students' overall impressions:
'When our teachers told us that we wouldn’t get bored here, they didn’t lie.' (Milana Sh.)
'My greatest takeaway is how quickly friendships can form when people work together, support each other, and share new experiences.' (Robert)
'It was a very interesting project, and I’m really glad I took part in it. I made great new friends, gained valuable experience working in a team, and learned a lot about ecology, environmental issues, and creativity. Many thanks to my Estonian host family and all the organizers — it was such a fun and inspiring experience, and I would love to take part in something like this again!' (Danila)
'I am thankful for the chance to join the NordPlus project. It expanded my knowledge, improved my teamwork skills, and gave me wonderful memories and friendships.' (Anna)
'My eco-project trip to Estonia was short but truly unforgettable. I stayed with a host family, and they were incredibly warm and welcoming. We all chatted during dinner about various topics, and it was generally very interesting and comfortable to be with them.' (Milana M.)
'The project was a really great experience for me and I hope to experience things like this again.' (Agata)
