On 29 November 2025, the RDC English Debate Tournament in the World Schools Debate format took place within the Nordplus Junior “DABA Hub” project, bringing together 65 participants from several schools in Riga.
The tournament was attended by students from Riga Zolitūde Gymnasium, Riga State Gymnasium No. 1, Riga State Gymnasium No. 2, Riga Secondary School No. 40, Riga Centre Humanitarian Secondary School, Riga Secondary School No. 22, Riga Secondary School No. 95, Riga Secondary School No. 21, RTU International School of Science and Technology, the International School of Riga, and other schools.
We are proud that the tournament was initiated and organised by students, with the support of alumni judges and teachers. Special thanks go to Anna Nikola Sirotkina, Deniss Gostevs, and their youth team for their initiative and excellent organisation. The event was supported by teachers from CLIL Education Centre, Riga Zolitūde Gymnasium and the Nordplus Junior project “DABA Hub” 2024-2026.
The first two rounds focused on the prepared motion: “This House Believes That developing countries should prioritise economic growth over environmental protection.” The third round and the finals featured impromptu motions.
This year, finals were held in both the Professional and Amateur categories, giving experienced debaters and beginners the opportunity to demonstrate their skills.
Congratulations to all the best speakers and winning teams, and sincere thanks to all students, teachers, judges, organisers, and supporters who made this tournament possible!
