Progress of the Project 2021-2022


During the first year of the project (June 2021 – June 2022) the following module materials were designed and systemised in Moodle:


Module 1 “The Urban Garden Concepts” - lesson plans and slides, teacher guidebook, in English, partially in Latvian and Swedish.

Module description:

The concept of urban garden.

In this module we will introduce the concept of urban gardening, variety of aims and typologies.

Students will get acquainted with possible locations and scales of urban garden, as well as correlation between location and certain threats (challenges).

Students will acknowledge environmental design solutions related to crime prevention, as well as types of nature-based solutions in urban gardens.

Module 2 “Types and Functions of Gardens” - lesson plans and slides, teacher guidebook, modules for teachers in English and Swedish

Module description:

The history and features of gardens.

In this module, students will learn about the garden’s history, how it originated and why.

How long ago the gardens started and when the first plans of the gardens appeared. The students will learn how people understood their needs and how they made gardens meet their needs in different centuries.


Module 3 “Landscape Factors” - lesson plans and slides, teacher guidebook, video lectures in English and Latvian

Module description:

Garden as an integral part of landscape.

Analytical plan of the land plot area.

Environmental analysis.

Analysis of vantage points and scenery.

Facade finishing materials for buildings and other structures.

Selection of garden paving materials.

The lecture is in Latvian.


Module 4 “Garden Planning and Ergonomics” - lesson plans and slides, teacher guidebook, modules for teachers in English and Swedish

Module description:

Students will learn the value of ergonomics in garden planning.




Module 8 “The Basics of Art and Design”- lesson plans and slides, teacher guidebook, support materials in English.

Module description:

In this module the student will learn the basics of floristry and the artistic value of it. The student will be introduced to the composition art and the most important elements when creating it. Moreover, the student will get to know how to use the colour wheel and argue for the colours chosen. Additionally, different techniques of plant decorations will be presented together with the requirements for implementation, which will help the student to create an organized and matching arrangement.
